Mr. Henson was an amazing person and loved all of his kids. I was so fortunate to have him as a band director for 7th and 8th grade. He always had a great attitude and loved teaching us. He will be miss by all that knew him.

Mr. Henson has touched so many lives. He gave so many of us the gift of music. He always went above and beyond to help us and keep our love of it alive; When I was in 6th grade, he helped me to get into district, something very few other band directors would have done. It's because of him and the deep love and appreciation for music that I am who I am today. He was never anything but kind, warm, and fun. Somehow he was able to manage a whole class of middle schoolers not by intimidation, but by earning our respect, a hard feat to master. I honestly feel blessed to have known him, and will miss him terribly.

I had the pleasure to have Mr. Henson introduce me to music in 6th grade. I had him in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade and will never forget the fun times I had with him. He has touched so many lives and will live on forever. As I sit in my dorm room in college I am sure I will never forget him. He was an amazing person and I never saw him have a bad day, he was always able to make me laugh. I can not thank him enough for the gift that he gave me and I am truly regretful that I can not make it down for his funeral. He will be missed greatly. Rest In Peace and God Bless.

My family and I are devastated by the recent news. We loved Mr. Henson because he was so wonderful and kind to me when I was a 6th grader at Pinckneyville. You could tell that teaching was what he loved to do by his smile, his humor, and…well…everything about him. Unfortunately, I only had one year with him, but what I learned from him, in band and the kindness that I experienced, I will cherish and always remember. I hope he realized just how many lives he touched.
We will love you always Mr. H!

It's so wonderful to hear so many students talk about Troy with such admiration and love! So many of us who were his bandmates in high school looked to him for guidance in the "crazy" world of marching band - he was always so easy to talk to and kind to everyone. I'll never forget him.

Few people can be remembered so fondly as Mr. Henson. Few will be as treasured as much as we treasure his humor, his kind soul, and his fine character. He watched us grow from middle schoolers to high schoolers to college students, and he'll continue to guide us. We'll make him proud. We'll be part of his legacy. He gave us reason and love and joy, and we found passion in sharing his music. We will all miss you, Mr. Henson. All the love in the world to his family. Thank you for sharing Mr. Henson with us.

Troy was the best! Those of us who had the good fortune to know him have truly been blessed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

p.s. I wonder if Coach is conducting the Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble upstairs in a heavenly rendition of Hauntings.

Mr. Henson was one of my biggest mentors in music. His enthusiasm in the classroom played a big part in my decision to be a music major. He was my band director in 8th grade, and I was so fortunate to be able to complete an internship under his direction my senior year. He was such a great person and impacted every student he taught. He will live on through the music that he passed on to his students, and I can only hope that I can pass on this joy to my students.
